Spirituality at Durley CE Primary School

At Durley CE Primary School, we explore spirituality through window, door, mirror and candle moments.

Window Moments – Beauty

Year R and Key Stage 1 Definition

Window moments help us stop and think about ourselves and the world around us. We start to notice the beauty in nature and in things people make. These moments help us understand our feelings when we see something amazing or special.

Key Stage 2 Definition

Window moments help us think about what we believe and how we fit into the world around us. During these times, we start to notice the world in new ways, including both nature and things people create. We learn to see the beauty around us and begin to understand our feelings when we experience amazing things in nature or see something creative that inspires us.

Door Moments – Others

Door moments help us stop and think about our feelings and how we treat other people.
We can think about how we feel and how we are kind to others.
They help us remember that everyone matters.
We can learn to be caring and make good choices to be a good friend.

Key Stage 2 Definition

Door moments help us think about our feelings and how we treat other people.
They give us time to notice others and understand that everyone is important.
These moments help us learn to be kind, caring and show compassion.
They also help us think about our choices and how what we believe affects our friendships and how we behave towards others.

Mirror Moments – Self

Year R and Key Stage 1 Definition

Mirror moments are times to think about ourselves and how we feel. We think about what makes us special. They help us learn about who we are and how we belong in God’s world.

Mirror moments help us think about ourselves and our own beliefs. They give us time to stop and reflect on our thoughts, feelings and who we are. These moments help us understand what makes us unique and special. They also help us think about our place in God’s world and how we connect with others. By taking time to reflect, we can learn more about ourselves and grow as individuals.

Candle Moments – Beyond

Year R and Key Stage 1 Definition

Candle moments are times to be quiet and think. We can wonder about big questions and things we cannot see. These moments help us feel calm and think about our place in God’s world.

Candle moments help us think about big ideas that we cannot see or touch. They give us time to wonder and ask important questions about life. These moments help us think about meaning, purpose, and our place in the world, and encourage us to reflect on what really matters.
